Matlock Coffee Roasters is an independent, female-founded coffee roastery and social enterprise based in Wirksworth, Matlock. We import speciality, sustainable and ethical coffee from all over the world and roast it right here in DE4. Each roast is hand packed into paper stream bags that can be recycled from home (please just remove the valve).

We believe that coffee can be good in more ways than just that first morning brew. Our mission is to support good causes in the local area, with a full £1 from every bag of coffee sold going towards homegrown good.

Our coffee is available in 200g bags, either wholebean or ground for cafetiere. You can find us in the Haarlem shop in Wirksworth or online, with delivery for a quid within DE4 and free collection from our roastery available.

Who we support

For our first year, we are donating towards:

Aquabox

Friends of Hurst Farm

Derby Mountain Rescue

Derbyshire LGBT+

North Derbyshire Refugee Support Group

We also regularly provide free coffee to the life-saving ambulance and fire services of Matlock, and support the brilliant High Tor Players theatre group.

All our clothing is Fair Wear and hand screenprinted by Printed By Us, a social enterprise in Sheffield that provides opportunities for homeless and vulnerable people to learn new skills and build confidence.

Our coffee

We recommend waiting 3 to 4 days after the roast date (and at least 7 days for espresso) before drinking your coffee, in order to allow the CO2 that has built up during roasting to be released. For cafetiere, we recommend 15g of coffee and 250ml of water per person, then a three-minute brew.

We hand deliver within the DE4 area every Friday afternoon and on Friday mornings you can collect from our roastery behind the Haarlem shop in Wirksworth. Our coffee is also available to buy from the Haarlem shop.
